How method of animation do you expect to use (3-D CG, Flash, hand drawn, puppets, etc)?
Whichever method you choose, good luck with it and try to have fun. It's a lot of work but it should also be enjoyable, at least to some degree.
hand drawn, cuz i'm hardcore like that. 3d elements in the bg, maybe projection mapping 2d images onto 3d models
